Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Lexisub browser extension, the lexisub.com website, and related services (together, the "Service"). The Service is provided by Soria Labs AS, a company registered in Norway (Org. nr. 937 457 375), Dronningens gate 5-7, Sandefjord, Vestfold ("Soria Labs AS", "we", "us"). By installing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

1. The Service

Lexisub is a browser extension that overlays one or more subtitle layers on HTML5 video players for language-learning purposes. It can display official subtitle tracks, subtitle files you load from your own device, and—if you supply your own third-party API key—machine translations. It also lets you save, export, and review phrases you collect while watching.

2. Not affiliated with streaming services

Lexisub is an independent tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Netflix, Inc. or any other streaming service. All third-party names and trademarks belong to their respective owners. You are responsible for ensuring that your use of Lexisub complies with the terms of service of any streaming platform you use it with, and with all applicable laws. You agree to use Lexisub only with content you are lawfully entitled to access.

3. Eligibility & accounts

You must be at least 16 years old (or the age of digital consent in your country) to use the Service. We identify your subscription by the email address you provide. You are responsible for the accuracy of that email and for keeping access to it secure.

4. Subscriptions, billing & taxes

• Lexisub offers a paid subscription ("Pro") at a limited-time promotional price of €2.49 / month (standard price €3.49 / month after the promotion ends) or a limited-time promotional price of €24.99 / year (standard price €29.99 / year after the promotion ends), and a limited free tier. Promotional pricing applies for as long as the subscription remains active; price changes take effect from the next renewal with prior notice.
• Payments are processed by Paddle.com Market Ltd ("Paddle"), which acts as the Merchant of Record for all purchases. Paddle handles billing, receipts, and the calculation and remittance of applicable taxes (such as VAT/GST). Your purchase is also subject to Paddle's Buyer Terms.
• Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price, until cancelled.
• We do not receive or store your full payment-card details.

5. Free trial

New installations include a 14-day trial with full features. When the trial ends, unless you have an active subscription, the Service reverts to the free tier. The trial does not require payment details.

6. Cancellation & refunds

Every new installation includes a 14-day free trial with full features, so you can fully evaluate Lexisub before you pay anything. Because of this, the following applies once you subscribe:

• Cancel anytime. You may cancel at any time. Cancellation stops all future renewals; your Pro access continues until the end of the billing period you have already paid for. We do not provide partial or pro-rated refunds for unused time in the current period.
• Payments are non-refundable once a billing period has started, except where a refund is required by mandatory law or is granted by us at our discretion under this section.
• Immediate access & digital-services withdrawal. Lexisub Pro is digital content/services that activate immediately when you subscribe. By subscribing and beginning to use Pro, you expressly request that we start providing the service right away and you acknowledge that you thereby lose your statutory 14-day right of withdrawal for the part of the service already supplied, to the extent permitted by applicable law.
• Discretionary refunds. We may, at our sole discretion and without obligation, grant a refund or account credit in cases such as a verified technical fault that prevents you from using the Service and that we are unable to resolve. Approval of one request does not oblige us to approve another.
• Processing. All payments and any refunds are handled by Paddle as Merchant of Record, in accordance with Paddle's Buyer Terms. Refund requests are assessed by us and processed through Paddle.
• How to reach us. To cancel or request a refund, contact contact@lexisub.com or use the account management link in your Paddle purchase receipt.

Nothing in this section limits any non-waivable statutory consumer rights you may have under the mandatory law of your country of residence; those rights always prevail to the extent they apply.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any third party's rights;
• reverse engineer, resell, or redistribute the Service except as permitted by law;
• attempt to circumvent subscription gating, security, or rate limits;
• use the Service to infringe copyright or to access content you are not entitled to.

8. Third-party translation providers

AI translation features are optional and require you to provide your own API key for a third-party provider (e.g. DeepL, OpenAI, or Google). When you use these features, the relevant subtitle text is sent to that provider under your own account and subject to that provider's terms and privacy policy. We are not responsible for third-party providers.

9. Intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, and branding, is owned by Soria Labs AS and protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for its intended purpose. Subtitle content you load remains yours.

10. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every website or future platform change.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Soria Labs AS will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data or profits, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law, including your mandatory statutory consumer rights.

12. Changes to the Service or Terms

We may update the Service and these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date on this page and, where required, by notice to you. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

13. Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these Terms or use the Service unlawfully. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (e.g. intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability) will survive.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Norway, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Mandatory consumer protections of your country of residence still apply. Disputes are subject to the competent courts of Norway, unless applicable consumer law provides otherwise.
